THE KINGMAN RELOCATION PROJECT

HELP US RAISE $40,000
ALL DONATIONS MATCHED

We are relocating our donkey family from our current 10-acre sanctuary in Scenic, Arizona to a new 40-acre property outside of Kingman, Arizona — and while the move comes with its challenges, we could not be more excited about what it means for the donkeys.

Why we are moving…
A cattle ranching operation acquired the former rescue directly adjacent to our sanctuary. They plan to drive cattle past our perimeter on horseback to the BLM land behind our current sanctuary.

For a donkey family who have already survived so much, this is not something we are willing to put them through. Many of our residents are deeply disturbed when people approach the perimeter on horseback. Donkeys are also highly attuned to the stress of nearby animals — a frightened herd next door affects our donkey family directly. And if a donkey is startled during a cattle drive, they can move suddenly and unpredictably — making it unsafe for anyone in the enclosure with them. As a sanctuary, we promised these animals and the people who care for them safety and peace. That promise does not have exceptions.

Moving 98 donkeys safely and preparing a new sanctuary comes with real costs.
Your donations will help fund:

fencing for 40 acres
installation of a new well
water storage equipment
ranch equipment storage
transport costs

If there was ever a moment to step up for the donkeys,
this is it.

Your gift right now will go even further…
We have secured $40,000 in matching donor funds — meaning every dollar you contribute will be doubled until the matching funds are exhausted. No matter the size of your gift, it lands twice as hard for the donkeys you care about.

For our wild burro advocates, there is another layer to this story that is hard to ignore.

The BLM removed most, if not all, of the wild burros from the public land behind our sanctuary — land those burros had called home for years — and is now leasing it to cattle ranchers. The same forces that displace wild burros from their land are displacing us from ours. We, a sanctuary built to give wild burros a home after being forced out for cattle grazing rights, are being forced out for cattle grazing rights. In that moment, we felt — in a very real and human way — a fraction of what our beloved residents had already lived through..

Our move has a deadline…

We are working to move the donkeys before the cattle arrive this fall, and every day of delay means our herd has the potential to be exposed to undue stress, which we have promised them they will never have to carry again.

Your donation ensures that the new Kingman sanctuary becomes a model for what compassionate, long-term wild burro stewardship can look like.

Remember, every donation will be doubled up to $40,000 directly supporting the Kingman Relocation Project.
